Principal Chief Declares Emergency in Advance of Landfall of Marco and Laura

With Tropical Storms Marco and Laura moving quickly towards the Louisiana coast. The occurrence of two tropical events in the Gulf of Mexico is historic and unprecedented that both are currently forecasted to make landfall along coastal Louisiana.  Additionally because of the unprecedented action, the ability for meteorological accuracy in predicting track and intensity is challenged. Consequently, the UHN is declaring a state of emergency for the 6-parish service area (St. Mary, Terrebonne, Lafourche, Jefferson, St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes) that is most vulnerable to the impacts of these storms.

As such all UHN offices will be closed until further notice for the safety of our employees.  The Tribal tropical weather plan is currently in effect where all tribal facilities are being secured and outreach to potential relief organizations is taking place.  All tribal citizens are urged to take all safety precautions and engage their own family emergency plans as these storms should not be taken lightly.  Additionally, please keep in mind the importance of practicing social distancing and wearing facial coverings if you are not able to remain in your home.
