JEFFERSON PARISH
Opens Sunday, January 19, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Terrytown Playground (641 Heritage Ave., Terrytown, LA 70056) and Ree Alario Special Needs Center (6900 Saints Drive, Metairie, LA 70003).

LAFOURCHE PARISH
Lafourche Parish Government is opening a Warming Shelter beginning at 4PM on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at the Lockport Community Center located at 5610 LA-1, Lockport, LA 70374. The warming shelter will stay open for the duration of the extreme cold conditions. Please note that if residents bring a pet to the warming shelter it needs to be in a kennel and have any food it needs these items will not be provided by the Parish.

ORLEANS PARISH
The City of New Orleans has activated its freeze plan, beginning Sunday, Jan. 19, and continuing at least through Wednesday, Jan. 22. The freeze plan will be in effect to provide temporary overnight shelter for homeless residents and a warming center for any residents in need. If you know someone who needs shelter during the cold weather, call 3-1-1.

Individuals needing shelter will be accepted, free of charge, at the following locations:

  • St. Bernard Recreation Center, 1500 Lafreniere St. (added Jan. 22)
  • The Salvation Army, 4526 S. Claiborne Ave.
  • Ozanam Inn, 2239 Poydras St.
  • New Orleans Mission, 1130 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd.
  • Low Barrier Shelter, 1530 Gravier St.

Individuals in need of a warming center may visit the following:

  • Rosenwald Recreation Center, 1120 S. Broad Ave., starting at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19

ST. BERNARD PARISH
Warming shelter opens at 6pm on Monday, January 20 at Val Riess multipurpose complex, 1101 Magistrate St., Chalmette, LA 70043. This is for residents who have no other option. Please bring your own blankets, food and supplies.

ST. CHARLES PARISH
On Monday, January 20, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., St. Charles Parish will open a warming shelter at the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center, 274 Edward Dufresne Parkway, Luling, LA 70070. Residents needing a warm place to stay should arrive no later than 11 p.m. If no one arrives by midnight, the shelter may close. The shelter is only for St. Charles Parish residents; IDs will be required.

Cots will be available, and the Red Cross is providing limited pillows and blankets. Residents should bring additional blankets, snacks and water. Additionally, no weapons or other contraband will be allowed in the shelter.
Residents coming to the shelter should plan to bring their pets with them. Bring all food, bowls, medications and a kennel for your pet to sleep in.
The shelter will close once temperatures rise above freezing.

ST. JAMES PARISH
Please call the Citizen Service Center at 225-562-2500 and pre-register on Monday, January 20th, 2025, from 9:00am- 3:00pm so our staff can plan for opening warming shelters. If you need transportation to the shelters, Transit Services will be operating as long as roadways are safe to drive on.

Shelf stable meals will be given out to homebound citizens in advance of the winter freeze.

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH
Warming Centers will open Monday, January 20, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at:
– West Bank Public Safety Complex, 5739 Highway 18, Wallace, LA
– Garyville Fire Station #71, 418 Historic West St., Garyville, LA

The shelters are open for St. John residents. Cots and blankets are available. Residents should bring additional blankets, food, and snacks. The shelters will remain open for the duration of the winter event.

ST. TAMMANY PARISH

The warming shelter has been moved to the Houma Municipal Auditorium (880 Verret Street, Houma, LA) and is now open. The closing of this shelter will be determined by weather conditions.
