A VETERANS DAY MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL CHIEF LORA ANN CHAISSON
Today, we honor Veterans, and especially our Houma veterans and Native warriors across Indian Country who have proudly served with courage, strength, and heart.
Our people have one of the highest rates of military service in the United States, a tradition of defending this land that goes back to the beginning. And today, I’m proud to recognize that Native American and Alaskan Native WOMEN serve at some of the highest proportions of any group in the U.S. military.
That strength, service, and commitment come from deep within our people, from generations of protectors who stood for our land, our people, and our way of life. Service is not something new to us; it is in our DNA, our stories, and our teachings. To protect, to defend, and to stand for something greater than oneself, these are not just values we carry; they are sacred gifts our ancestors entrusted to us.
To every veteran, past and present, thank you for your sacrifice, your leadership, and your love for your people and this country. May the Creator continue to bless and protect you always.
