The United Houma Nation is currently taking applications for Houma Youth Language Interns to participate in three potential language tracks:
- Immerse in Houma French either online or in person with a Houma French speaker
- Immerse in the Traditional Uma Language online with the Houma Language Project Team to explore and learn pre-contact language
- Immerse in Tribal Archives in person at the Houma Tribal Office to learn about archiving and documenting language preservation
Applications are being sought from tribal youth ages 14-25. Interested applicants must complete THIS FORM by February 4, 2022 to be considered. Chosen interns will receive $500 after successfully completing the internship requirements. “I am very excited to have our youth take the initiative in learning and preserving our language through these kind of opportunities,” stated Chief August Creppel.
