UHN Offices Close to the Public in Compliance of Governor’s Request for Louisianians to Stay Home

In light of Governor John Bel Edwards’ mandate to shelter in place, effective Monday, March 23, 2020 all UHN offices are closed to the public.  Staff will be teleworking and essential personnel will be in the office as needed.  The UHN is in our emergency operations mode, which means we are actively seeking information on community needs and responding as best possible.  Weekly wellness calls to tribal elders will begin this week as well as tribal leaders are mobilizing healthy tribal citizens to help with long term recovery including –

  1. Sewing reusable masks for medical staff, essential personnel, and vulnerable tribal citizens
  2. Preparing a community garden (practicing appropriate personal distances) to share fresh fruits and vegetables with tribal elders
  3. Gathering plants and herbs used for traditional medicines for use in the community as well as making hand sanitizer to distribute to tribal elders that may need resources
  4. Shopping for tribal elders without family support to assist them

Anyone wanting to help with these efforts personally, please touch base with us at [email protected] so we can put you on a volunteer list and match you with needs in the community.  Also if you are able and have the ability to donate towards these efforts, please consider donating towards either the UHN’s Coronavirus Community Recovery or General Operations as we create the systems needed to support our communities long-term.
