UHN Offices Closed Sept. 11-12 In Anticipation of Tropical Storm Francine

In anticipation of Tropical Storm Francine, the United Houma Nation’s offices will be CLOSED on Wednesday, September 11 and Thursday, September 12. We plan to re-open on Friday, September 13. Please continue to monitor our News page and our social media channels (Facebook / Instagram / X-Twitter) for updates from the Tribal Office.

The National Hurricane Center has issued a hurricane warning and storm surge warning for coastal Louisiana. Residents are encouraged to secure your personal belongings and evacuate the area. A list of storm shelters in our six-parish service area is provided below. Please bring at least two days’ worth of food, water, medicine, plus bedding and charging cables for portable electronic devices. Also bring  your important documents and secure them in Zip-loc bags so they do not get wet.

TERREBONNE PARISH – The storm shelter opens TODAY (Sept. 10) at 6pm, at the Municipal Auditorium, 880 Verret Street in Houma. Residents in need of transportation to the shelter should call 985-873-6357.
LAFOURCHE PARISH – The Lockport Community Center will serve as a storm shelter. It is located at 5610 LA-1, Lockport, LA 70374. Evacuations will begin at 5PM today September 10, 2024. Mandatory evacuations for residents in a FEMA or State Housing Units and South of the Leon Theriot Locks. Voluntary evacuations for the Lower Bayou Blue Community, Eagle Island Road, anyone in a mobile home, low lying area and anyone feeling vulnerable.
JEFFERSON PARISH – The Terrytown Playground (641 Heritage Avenue, Terrytown, LA 70056) will open TODAY (Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m.) for residents in need of sturdy shelter. Residents should bring their own food/water as the playground will only provide sturdy shelter and cots during the storm.
PLAQUEMINES PARISH – Storm shelter opens at TODAY (Sept. 10) at 12pm at Plaquemines Parish Govt. Multipurpose Center, 333 F. Edward Hebert Bldg, Belle Chasse, LA. Please bring food/water/medication/bedding. For transportation to the shelter, call 504-934-6940.
