UHN Raising Funds for Hurricane Laura Relief and Tribal Hurricane/Disaster Reserve Fund

The United Houma Nation is keeping a watchful eye on Hurricane Laura and has concerns for our westernmost communities in St. Mary Parish that are at highest risk for high winds and our most vulnerable communities that either live outside of the levee systems or have new or incomplete levee systems that have never been tested against a Category 3 hurricane storm surge – Isle de Jean Charles, Point aux Chene, Lafitte, Crown Point, Dulac, and Dularge.  With Laura taking a nearly identical tract as Hurricane Rita in 2005, the UHN remembers the hundreds of tribal citizens who experienced flooding from the storm surge.

In preparation of Hurricane Laura’s landfall, the UHN is seeking to raise funds to provide immediate assistance to those families most significantly impacted.  Additionally, should Laura’s landfall not impact the tribal service area, then funds raised will be put into a reserve for the next event.  Unfortunately living along the coast of southeast Louisiana, we always know there will be a next time.  To donate to this fund, please click the link below.
