We are pleased to announce that the United Houma Nation has received additional funding to continue its “Expanding Traditions” series. The UHN was chosen as a recipient of the 2021 Louisiana Culture, Recreation and Tourism and Atchafalaya Trace Commission Small Fund Grant. This series will provide tribal citizens the opportunity to engage with people who have in-depth knowledge of the culture, traditions, and history of the United Houma Nation. The expansion of this project will consist of three additional panels that will be held each month utilizing Zoom.
For our sixth workshop, we will have Grayhawk Perkins, who will be sharing his knowledge of Houma life through storytelling. This workshop was so well attended and left everyone wanting more, we decided it was worth the repeat. Please know we will have new stories so if you attended the last sessions don’t be discouraged that it will be more of the same.
The event is limited to a 75 capacity and open to individuals of Houma descent only. It will be held on Wednesday, August 25 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm over Zoom. We are excited for the many more workshops to come, made possible by the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area.
