Community Engagement Assistant – Primary duties will be coordinating between staff and tribal leaders with managing social media, online newsletter, group texting, etc., assisting with community event planning with particular focus on coastal and climate impacts to the tribal communities, manage a schedule of tribal community events and activities, provide regular reports to the UHN Media Committee as well as assist with coordinating media relations and planning with the committee. A degree in communications or related field is preferred; however, years of direct work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Position is full-time with starting pay $12.45/hour. Funding is dependent on grant funding.
Case Manager/Community Health Worker – Primary duties will be to conduct intake of hurricane impacted families to determine unmet needs, identify resources and assist with connecting with available assistance both within the UHN and outside; assist UHN Administration with processing requests for assistance and verifying case status of applicants; effectively communicate with tribal citizens about hurricane relief services available and eligibility for services; maintain records and track applicant progress. An interest in the health and welfare of the community is a must. There are two (2) positions being hired that will transition from purely transition Case Managers to Community Health Workers after completing additional training to be provided within the first 2 months of employment. After training, primary duties will also include providing social support and interventional health counseling as needed, connecting uninsured or underinsured tribal citizens to mental health, medical care, and social services needed, teaching basic health education, such as hygiene best practices and disease prevention, help individuals interpret health information, perform data entry into a database, and collect and report data as required. A bachelor’s degree in public health, health education, or a related field is preferred and previous work experience working in Case Management is encouraged. This position most significantly requires individuals who have friendly, compassionate, and empathetic personalities with a desire to help others. Position is full-time with starting pay $17/hour. Funding is dependent on grant funding initially.

Houma Language Project – CONTRACT POSITIONS
Contract positions are 1099 based work that is task oriented to secure payment. Hours of work as dependent on the individuals ability to complete the tasks assigned as agreed in a formal written contract between the UHN and the individual. Potential contractors are aware that taxes are their individual responsibility and will not be deducted from processed billing.

About the Project
The United Houma Nation in partnership with the Houma Language Project received a grant to support Houma youth language learning and the establishment of a Houma Language Committee from the Administration for Native Americans American Rescue Plan Act Emergency Native Language Funding.
The 18-month grant focuses on the development of paid internships and a language council. The Houma Language Committee is composed of UHN Council Members, UHN staff, HLP volunteers, and tribal community volunteers who are Houma French speakers.
The intern project supports internships each semester for any Houma youth aged 14-25 to partner with existing programs or connections to learn Houma language skills. Students who are enrolled members of the UHN can earn $500 through a three-month internship, and can self-select their area of interest between the following three learning tracts, which will all be archived for future learning and preservation efforts.
Project Manager will work with the tribal office to ensure the project maintains timeline, budget, and scope. The project manager will work with the Education Coordinator to develop intern timelines and recruitment around student schedules. They will onboard students with the internship rubric, and collaborate with district council people on community placements as needed. They will ensure participants are paid, and collaborate on final reports. Program Managers will receive a $500 stipend for each student accepted into the program. Deliverables includes:
- Works closely with tribal office staff
- Organize and attend Language committee meetings
- Ensure the project maintains timeline, budget, and scope; and provides access of these to the Language Committee
- Work with the Education Coordinator to onboard students with the internship rubric
- Support Education Coordinator in developing internship orientation
- Collaborate with Language Committee on community mentor/intern placements as needed.
- Ensure participants are paid, and collaborate on final reports.
- Project Manager will receive a $500 stipend for each student accepted into the program.
Requirements are:
- Project management experience
- Education experience preferred
- Experience with documentation and reporting for fed grants preferred
- Proficiency in related collaborative software such as google docs, Zoom meetings, etc
- Access to computer and internet
Education Coordinator will engage with students within the program. They will coordinate closely with local school districts and the UHN program manager to recruit students. They will conduct monthly check-ins and support students with any needs during the project. Education Coordinators will receive a $500 stipend for each student accepted into the program. Deliverables include:
- Engage with students within the program to assess and address any needs that may arise.
- Work with Language committee and Project Manager to develop curriculum for each tract
- Coordinate closely with local school districts and the UHN Project Manager to recruit students.
- Organize and conduct monthly check-ins and support students with any needs during the project.
- Facilitate completion of extracurricular requirements for applicable students.
- Education Coordinator will receive a $500 stipend for each student accepted into the program

- Project management/curriculum development experience
- Proficiency in related collaborative software such as google docs, Zoom meetings, etc
- Access to computer and internet
