UHN RISING – Building Resilience Together
The United Houma Nation (UHN) has been awarded $56.5 million by NOAA to implement the UHN RISING Project – a five-year, five-phase. resilience plan addressing increasing storms and flooding, disaster recovery, and long-term preservation in South Louisiana.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Will UHN citizens have a say in building retrofits?
Yes. Parish-level working groups and public workshops will guide decisions.
Can NOAA funding be used to build new buildings?
No. The current funding is for retrofitting existing buildings, not new construction.
Can NOAA funding retrofit individuals’ homes?
No. This funding is for community infrastructure. UHN continues to seek new funding opportunities.
Can NOAA funding go directly to Tribal citizens?
No. Federal law prohibits direct distribution, but additional funding streams are being pursued.
GEOGRAPHIC SCOPE
UHN RISING serves six parishes: Terrebonne, Lafourche, Plaquemines, Jefferson, St. Bernard, and St. Mary. The Tribe has lived across this region since the 1700s, interconnected by culture, history and water.
