Curtis Hendon Mug

The United Houma Nation is seeking to quarterly recognize talented artists in the tribe.  Our Fall 2020 artist is Mr. Curtis Hendon who recently joined the spirit world after a brief battle with cancer.

Born and raised on Isle de Jean Charles and later residing in Raceland with his family, Mr. Curtis who was commonly known as “Pootoo” and “Tuut” had an inspiration for storytelling through his paintings. Many of his paintings showcased his heritage and his love of his home.  The mug sold here is a compilation of many of his works.  The UHN is honored that his family has allowed us to share with you all so that his memory and work may live on.  Additional designs not featured, but well known works of Mr. Hendon are the Louisiana American Indian prestige license plate and the UHN Celebrating Abilities Powwow insignia.

Please look for the companion product to this mug which is a tee featuring the painting called “Isle de Jean Charles Chief.”  Mr. Curtis sadly passed away in September 2020. He has been such a huge help with the tribe, and we will continue to recognize his many talents and to continue his legacy.  The UHN will pass on 20% of sales of both the mug and tee to Mr. Hendon’s family.
