DESCRIPTION:There will be a tribal council meeting open to the public\, this Saturday at the Leo E. Kerner\, Jr. Multi-Purpose Center at 10am. The address for this event is 4917 City Park Dr.\, Lafitte\, LA. \nDue to COVID-19 guidelines\, the maximum attendance is set at 50\, anybody over that limit will not be allowed to enter. Anyone attending will be asked to have their temperature checked\, wear their masks correctly\, and maintain the social distance guidelines. The tables will be laid out to enforce that. \nWe are excited to safely provide the community with the most updated news on what is happening with the tribe in light of COVID-19 and to hear the community’s concerns or questions. We are looking forward to hearing from you!

DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nBasket Weaving 2-Part Class \nAt the United Houma Nation\, we are always striving to preserve our way of life and tradition to our community. Our people created Palmetto baskets\, which is unique to our tribe. UHN is excited to share with you these classes on June 20 & 27\, 2019\, at the United Houma Nation building. \nThe class will teach you to create three types of weave baskets. \n\n4-strand or jigsaw style\n7 to 9 strand technique\nA half-hitch coils\n\nBy the end of the class\, UHN is hoping that these customs will continue to be passed down so that it is preserved for the future. \nThe class is offered for ages 8 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. You must pre-register before June 18\, 2019. The time of the class will be from 12 pm to 4 pm.
