Youth Media Team
The UHN Youth Media Team (YMT) is a group of young men and women who are taking active roles in our tribal communities striving to preserve our cultural traditions through oral history. Our tribal youth is able to make a connection with tribal leaders and elders by conducting a simple interview. The Youth Media Team was trained to conduct and edit interviews properly by Abdulai Bah and Deepa Fernandez of People’s Production House in New York City. The Youth Media Team has been granted the opportunity to be able to share their interviews throughout New York City and other native radio stations throughout the United States. The Houmas are unique in many ways, and our goal is to be able to share our history, traditions and way of life with other people around the nation. Our tribal leaders want our youth to gain knowledge and take advantage of the opportunities that are available to them. The Youth Media Team project has given many of our youth the confidence to be able to defend their culture and take pride in who they are. The theme of this year’s camp was ‘It’s up to us, are you up to it?’ We believe our youth is up to it! To listen to an interview, click this link: UHN Final Bio
